Hacker Attack On German CO2 Registry Causes EUR3 Million In Damages
An attack by internet hackers on Germany's online carbon dioxide emissions certificates registry caused damages of around EUR3 million, said Hans-Juergen Nantke, head of Deutsche Emissionshandelsstelle, the country's authority supervising CO2 emissions trade.
The hackers illegally gained login details of seven trading participants, Nantke told Dow Jones newsletter TradeNews Emissions. Overall some 250,000 CO2 emissions certificates were "stolen" in the hacker attack, Nantke added.
Nantke also said the German CO2 emissions certificate registry will return to normal operations Thursday, instead of the end of the week as the DEHSt had previously said.
